day 24 of 30 green smoothie days in a row

kinda wishing i didn't make a green smoothie today.
i started by squeezing fresh orange juice and goodness, would it have been AWESOME just to drink that. and why didn't i? well, because i was going to use it for this green smoothie!
this smoothie was going to just be the fresh orange juice with collard greens. neither of which i tried on their own. then, i remembered i had a bulb of fennel i hadn't used yet so i added a few stalks of that. not knowing how it tastes in a smoothie as i've only ever used it in salad (which is delicious, btw!). then i was kinda freaked that it tasted too strong like having an onion-aftertaste kind of strong. so i added an asian pear and a frozen banana and an avocado. now i'm just drinking it slowly. whew. it's intense. if it didn't have the aftertaste, i would be into it. but yikes. i should really start slow when adding new ingredients.

paul hasn't commented on the taste. but he didn't like the texture so he had to blend it with apple juice again.

i gotta do something safe for tomorrow's smoothie!

day 22 of 30 green smoothie days in a row

today's smoothie was some remaining collard greens, romaine lettuce (i feel like i haven't used romaine in awhile), an asian pear, 2 kiwis (they were getting kinda soft), mint leaves (not as much as yesterday) and an apple with 1 cup of filtered water.
i loved the texture - the pear and kiwi added a light grittiness. paul found it too thick (and not ice cream smooth-type thick!) so he blended it with some apple juice.
i love that making a green smoothie is a daily tradition now. next week, as i am spending one night in seattle, paul is going to have to make at least one of his own ^_^ i'm curious what he will concoct!

day 3 of 30 green smoothie days in a row

so my good news this morning is that this eczema i have had on the inside of my right elbow since january has almost disappeared! it is barely a bit of a dry ring - it used to be red and sometimes itchy and very confusing. my naturopath said that i have had something i am just trying to get out of my system. perhaps i am jumping the gun a bit but i think my green smoothie habit is working its magic already!

this morning, i blended a whole bunch of kale, one asian pear and one bosc pear, some frozen banana and raspberries and mango (the kale bitterness was a bit strong for me this morning so i ended up adding more fruit than just the pear and raspberries i had planned!)

i know victoria boutenko would be doing the whole bunch of kale herself and i think i will get to that. for now, the bunch turned into something enough for glasses for paul and i and an "emergency smoothie" for later ^_^ i started with 2 cups of filtered water in the vitamix so perhaps i will start with less next time.

korean middle school cafeteria winter-styles day 17

breakfast... broccoli? potatoes and carrots? oh my! warmed food but a welcome change. i didn't even have cereal this morning! ooh and the 'asian pears' - oh yes!!!
this salad had some sundried tomatoes and dulse and oil and vinegar and it was kind of depressing. but then i found out the squash soup was vegan. and it was delicious! YESSSSSSS!
dinner... nori potatoey covered noodles of some sort, steamed greens and salad. worked for me. but i ate way too much and felt sick afterwards.

korean middle school cafeteria winter-styles day 6

so... this morning... greens i could eat, nuts i could eat (not raw but STILL) and roasted nori... i don't know how others are so hungry by lunch time! 4.5 hours until lunch? no problem! and fruit galore! back home, i'd call these asian pears. but if i'm in asia, what are they called?
cucumber in some oniony garlic vinegar, banana! and hemp seeds on the ol' faithful salad for lunch!
it's pizza night after dinner so that generally ironically means no options for me for dinner in the cafeteria. but at least there was salad. dulse and hemp did me well. and then some oranges were brought out. YES!
and yeah, my excitement while everyone eats pizza (if i can wait until then) is these cookies. yippee!
