korean middle school cafeteria winter-styles day 5

okay so getting off the raw train temporarily... there was tofu in the cafeteria again! and the roasted seaweed seemed like too great of an addition. i can't help but believe that me choosing any vegan options available in the cafeteria creates more of a demand for them! raw bagel with coconut oil though is crucial for my better breakfast!
look! my orange still has a leaf! YES! beauty.
lunch... i don't know how i got so lucky but the greens did not contain any "little fish" OR "little little fish". AMAZING. i broke up some of my raw nori from home for the salad and eek! a banana for dessert! LOVES IT.
and okay, dinner? more vegan options? the broccoli was steamed and then chilled but whatever! it's broccoli!!! and then a warm no animal product potato strips thing was great for a switch. and later cucumber strips with sesame seeds were brought out. YES! i have never seen so many vegan options in this cafeteria in one day before. one of the chefs came up to me and said hello and my name so i can't help but feel like being so inquisitive about the food plays a role in what they produce for us!

korean middle school cafeteria winter-styles day 4

breakfast.... i added some *gasp* roasted seaweed strips to my salad and ate the bean sprouts from the cafeteria. it was nice to switch things up though. fragments of raw bagels with walnut butter is so awesome! so glad i brought that! but i have to say - the salad is nice today with the addition of peppers and different leaves and shoots!
raw bagel with walnut butter continued... and salad... this time i added some half decent sweet pickled seaweed and radish (? i forget?) shred...
added dulse and sundried tomato to the salad tonight at dinner... not so exciting. think i'll be having some chickpea miso soup with kombu quite soon!

korean middle school cafeteria winter-styles day 3

breakfast... ruth's chia cranberry ginger goodness and some salad stuffs and persimmon. not bad! YAY!
lunch... not sure what you call oshinko in korean but couldn't resist as it was something different. but gotta wonder what makes it so yellow. added hemp seed and rawmesan to the salad with some apple cider vinegar.
i think i ate a million snacks this afternoon as we haven't really started working yet so i wasn't hungry for dinner. but then there was tofu which i don't usually eat but to see something vegan in the cafeteria is too exciting and i can't help but want to support. and warm food was exciting too... so anyways, had that with some more of the salad... this time with some pumpkin seeds i had sprouted and dehydrated back home with lemon and ginger. lovely orange for dessert!

seattle!!!

i finally got to try some raw places in seattle... the day before i left for korea. i got to stock up on some raw snacks for my trip too which was awesome. hurrah for terra organica in bellingham on the way and whole foods (one of them!) in seattle on the way back for the sales and stuff i can't get in canada!

i had some chocolate mint pudding from happy day raw foods and a "happy herb" bar from gopal's for breakfast. was really craving savoury things after this though.
went to chaco canyon in the university district for lunch. had the raw burrito and a green goddess juice.
my friend had the ginger sesame bowl (featuring kelp and zucchini noodles) and maybe it was the boost juice? i was quite happy to finish her meal when she couldn't!
later, for dinner, we shared a raw chili con marvelous at thrive. it was AWESOME and i'm excited to try replicate it at home when i get home. the manager (and everyone else we came in contact with) was super friendly and i enjoyed this place more than chaco canyon...

korean middle school cafeteria winter-styles day 2

breakfast... some sort of bitter citrus, "rawgles" with walnut butter, and salad with rawmesan and olive oil. love this ramesan! nutritional yeast, sunflower seed chunks, walnuts and sea salt.
lunch! added chili salted almonds and sun-dried tomatoes (from organic lives) and the rawmesan to the salad and had some of the not-so-raw rice noodles with toasted sesame seeds and veggies and some sweet pineapple!
dinner... more of the same salad stuff but i added some dulse as well.

korean middle school cafeteria winter-styles day 1

so i'm back teaching at a camp in korea... i changed up my food suitcase a bit this time around but once again, i really only eat the iceberg lettuce salad from the cafeteria (if it hasn't been tainted by seafood, meat or dairy additives).
my first full day at the camp included meals such as a go raw real live flax bar for breakfast, then lunch i did in the cafeteria...
i finally got to try the "almond rosemary rawgles" i've been anxious to try... picked up a whole bunch of stuff from home grown living foods at buddha-full. excitement! lots of fun stuff made in lake cowichan and they have a buddha in their logo so it matches buddha-full. anyways... i wished these to be chewy and they're not, but they are softer and thicker than typical raw crackers so it was a nice change. smeared some coconut oil on em (they shattered in my lugggage) and it was great fun! had the cukes and carrots and salad from the cafeteria plain and then some oranges too! yahoo!

it was pizza night to celebrate new years eve so the teachers had that to look forward to after dinner in the cafeteria. the salad that i count on to be there was mayonaise atop fruit so it was a major letdown. but hurrah for the sprouted chickpea miso i bought at organic lives! added some kombu which kind of reminded me of 'el dante' pasta and it was quite nice!
