i'm at my parents' house for the weekend and i'm on smoothie duty for the mornings! i'm so excited they have been doing their own green smoothies since my last visit. and it's exciting to come for a visit and have a stock of fresh, organic yummy things to blend up!
this morning, i blended a couple leaves of kale (kale kind of frustrates me lately as there are more bugs than usual to clean off!), 1/3 a bunch of italian parsley, 3-4 stalks of red chard, 3 pears, 2 peaches, about 2 cups of water.

green smoothie experiments.
yesterday's smoothie is the remainder of my romaine lettuce, a few red chard leaves, a peach and a plum (and 1 cup of water as it's a smoothie for one!)
i have to say i'm getting kind of tired of romaine in my smoothies and i can't even say i do it that often.
so this next one is sans romaine and is made of the greens of one bunch of radishes, one peach, one nectarine and 1 cup of water.
it smells a bit like peach and tastes very light and fresh. a bit garden grass-ish but it blended so light like a frothy juice, it's refreshing!
i just started reading a book from the library, the 80/10/10 diet by dr. douglas n. graham, and there's a nectarine on the front (with cucumber and lettuce) - perhaps that will have to be my next green smoothie, when i'm ready to drink lettuce again! ^_^

day 14 of 30 green smoothie days in a row
somehow forgot to take a photo this morning! guess i'm running out of ideas to make the green smoothie look different!
anyways, today's smoothies for paul and i were made of a bunch of red chard (without the stems), an apple and a pear. yep!
i'm on my 2nd day of drinking a litre of apple juice in the morning. whoa. 4 more days until my liver/gallbladder cleanse. eek!

day 7 of 30 green smoothie days in a row
i went to work today. and i feel better though still quite hoarse.
paul was up this early morning so we had smoothies together. they looked more brown than green but the green was there, i promise!

doesn't look all that appetizing, does it?
green looks way better.
but what if i told you this one had a mellow chocolatey creaminess to it?
this one is red chard leaves, romaine lettuce, frozen banana and sambazon pure acai (hence the chocolate-berry flavour hint).

day 5 of 30 green smoothie days in a row
this morning when i blended my romaine lettuce, red chard leaves, frozen banana and mango, i used 1.5 cups of filtered water instead of the 1 cup i did yesterday. paul did not like how his frozen smoothie yesterday thawed out into mealy chunks. and today i gave it to him right when i made it rather than putting it in the freezer for him until he got up ^_^ and it worked well. half-asleep, drinking his smoothie! hehe
we'll see if it works again tomorrow.
we'll see if it works again tomorrow.
i'm upset tonight because i went out for tea to sweet obsession and i ordered a chai latte with soy milk (as i wanted something a bit more than plain tea - everyone else was having desserts which i of course would not be eating) and it seemed to be so pure white but i didn't think anything of it until my face and ears were feeling super hot. but the worst was seeing the bill and the lack of charge for the different "milk". and then the waitress confirmed she forgot about the soy. so now i have this crazy stomach ache and i find it hard to stay upright. i'm drinking kombucha and hoping to wake up tomorrow with it out of my system. it's hard psychologically because i am very careful to not consume ANY animal products but it is also hard because dairy is included in my elimination diet on the "definitely avoid completely" list and i can't help but worry that i have messed up my 6 weeks of commitment to this. and 2 nights ago i had a couple bites of hummus that ended up having sun-dried tomato in it (and tomato is on my "avoid" list!) and my hands immediately dried up and have been cracking ever since. it's also freezing out but i can't help but think it's related.
anyways... come on, probiotics! balance me out!
